We actually received an email today! Hip hip hooray!! He is always sooo sweet to personally email each of his siblings, myself, and Jeremy just a quick note of love, encouragement, etc. Then he sends out the "Big Kahuna" to me and I get to share the love.
Unless you're a missionary mama, it's pretty hard to understand how receiving an email weekly can make it feel like Christmas time and time again. But it does. And it's awesome.
So without further ado....here are his letters and pictures from the week!
The sweet letter he sent just to me {but it's so sweet, I just had to share it}
Dear Mom,
Thank you for your email! Thanks for forwarding the message from Tyler {his buddy Tyler who is serving a mission in Santa Cruz Ca, sent us a sweet letter so I emailed him part of it} and big thanks to the Platts! {Platts, you know why!} I love you so much mom and I am grateful for the example that you have given to me! I miss you and the family, but no worries, I'm not trunky, {trunky = homesick, sad, etc..} haha! Thanks for all the good times and for helping me through the bad times. I love you so much! Thanks for all that you do! Keep being the great mom you are!
Love,
Your Son :)
Such a sweet boy! I thought I'd include part of the letter I sent to him, a good reminder to me and all of us! (Amy's story!)
Story for you! So we know how it's so important to listen to the Holy Ghost, right? :) Well, this morning I was getting ready for church (I'm always up so early...hours before anyone else is!!) So I'm putting on my make up and I have the voice in my head say, "Wear your waterproof mascara" (If you don't already know, I have 2 mascaras. One that I wear pretty much every day - it washes off easy and smears with tears! I also have a waterproof / tear proof one that I bought about a month before you left - I knew I'd need it!!) So I think to myself, "Hmm, I'm doing pretty good. I don't need my waterproof mascara. I'm good with the regular one" (don't ask me why I just don't listen!!!) So, on to church. We ended up singing a rest hymn which was "Each Life That Touches Ours for Good" Hymn 293 { you can find the words by going here.} And for some reason I was overcome with emotion (like I am now as I type this!). I am soooo very thankful for your example to me. I am so thankful how YOU have touched MY life for good! I miss you like crazy {in a doing-good kind of way} and oh how I love you!!! Thank you so much for your incredible example, your strong testimony, your ability to put your shoulder to the wheel and work through adversity and hard times, your humor, and your friendliness and love for everyone! I LOVE YOU ELDER CALL!!! So, moral of the story....listen to the Holy Ghost ALWAYS!! In the simple things and the big things...and you won't have mascara running down your face in Sacrament meeting (not that you'll have that problem!!!) :)
And now on to the Big Kahuna:
Dear Family,
First, to answer some of mom's questions:
Did the guy who said he'd come to Sports Night show up? Did he like it? How many do you have come usually? Do you get to play the entire time? And in sports clothes, I'm thinking!!? Name tag on --- or is that deadly playing bball with a name tag on?? haha
No, but he said he was going to come this week. We also invited a bunch of people at the park the other night to come, so this upcoming sports night should be interesting. Yes, we do get to play, which is fun! But I don't wear my tag while I play. {ha, pretty much a good thing...could be dangerous!}
How is the guy from the balcony?? {see last weeks letter!} Did he come to church with you and Elder Lloyd? He wasn't able to come to church, but we are hoping to go over to his house to teach him this week!
Can you print out these letters at the library to read again later?
I could, but it costs a lot to print + I don't know how to. But I could work on that! {I was just curious if he could re-read our letters. Guess it costs too much to print out. I suppose that's why he keeps telling us how much he loves to get letters in the mail. So he can see the handwriting and re-read them! So, if you're reading this and you have a spare few minutes to make a missionary happy, then send him a letter! His address is in his blog (sidebar? or one of the first posts)\!)}
Have you had a hair cut??? By who?? First haircut by someone other than ME!!! :) {I have always, always cut my boys hair!}
I've had two haircuts now, both by a man in another ward named Franny! And yes it is weird not getting haircuts from you mom, haha!
Where do you do your laundry? At your basement apartment or a laundrymat? How's that going?? Don't forget to wash your sheets and towels! I'm pretty sure that heaven smells like freshly washed sheets!!! :) We do our laundry over at Frannys too! He is a pretty cool member. I think he invited me to be his friend on facebook, haha!
Ok so as for the rest of the week...
We have three new investigators. How? Its pretty much the miracle of the week. They are from Egypt and they moved into the area, and stopped by the church on Sunday and said that they wanted to join any activities we had. Whaaaat?? Awesome huh? So they are stopping by the church again this week and we are going to tell them more about it! Hoora!
So pretty much our most effective finding has been random people talking to us. Not knocking doors, or street contacting or church tours or pretty much anything that requires work, but just random people talking to us. Its crazy. So the Lord does bless us for the work we do, just not in the way that we expect it!
What else happened this week? We had Zone Conference which was fantastic. President had lots of good advice for us and there were lots of inspired messages! It was great. We met with one of our investigators twice this week and she is beginning to make some progress, which is awesome! I finished our sports night sign too!! It looks pretty sweet. I'll send you some pictures!
Its weird to think that transfers will be in two and a half weeks! Next week I will find out if I am training, which will be pretty crazy!
Also, I'm having all these weird mission related dreams. Like the other night I dreamed that as part of our mission Elder Lloyd and I flew over to some island to play golf for four months. {hahahaha} Another one was that Elder Lloyd and I were being chased by greyhounds and some crazy man. So pretty much the mission is awesome, haha! {still the same old Spenc!}
I love it out here! The work is coming along!
The church is true. The gospel really does bring true happiness and eternal joy to us and our families. God loves us and he loved us so much that He gave us His Son, Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and He loves us so much too. God and Christ love us so much that they have given us the true church on the earth today, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The Book of Mormon is the word of God, as is the Bible. I know that by reading the Book of Mormon we can find for ourselves that the church is true, that Christ is our Savior, and that Joseph Smith is a prophet. I know that by living Christ's gospel we can find more happiness than we can from anywhere else, because I have felt the joy for myself. The church is true, and God loves all of His children.
Love,
Elder Call
And now for PICTURE TIME!!!
The Street that the Museum is on that they went to on P-day!
{street sign above, museum below}
The missionaries host Sports Night every Friday night at the gym at church. They invite everyone and anyone to come play basketball with them. So Spencer made these cool posters to put up outside the church.
Way to keep up your artistic skills Elder Call!
Spenc was soooo excited to send these photos - especially for Erin. He's RECYCLING!
Erin is our recycling girl!! Way to go Elder Call.
Here he is with the receipt and money he received from recycling.
Sunsets in Canada
{I'm assuming this is the neighborhood he's living in}
Beautiful rainbow. I'm also assuming that this is the house that they live in (they live in the basement)
And possibly that's his companion on the phone heading into the house?!
Sunsets in Calgary are gorgeous!
Thanks for all of the great photos Elder Call
We love you and are so proud you!
