ZL's with Elder Madsen
in Cardston, Canada
Dear Earth,
This week was fantastic. Only one pancake breakfast, which was kind of good because I'm sick of pancakes. We were still able to talk with lots of people. Its been super fun. There is lots of work to be done! We certainly had a fun time fishing for new people to teach this week!
Alright, so picture this. So there is this old Hotel in Cardston called the Cahoon Hotel. Its on the corner of Main Street. Big white building, with two small sets of stairs in the front. There's about twelve natives sitting outside on the steps, enjoying the sun after a good hour of rainfall. Elder Madsen and I walk over, both thinking we've hit the jackpot. A few spot us coming, and head in different directions. I try to start a conversation with the ones on the steps and a few more take off. As I talk with a few of them Elder Madsen is busy trying to talk to the ones that are trying to leave. By this time there is only about five people left on the steps for me to talk to, and Elder Madsen is in a hurry trying to juggle multiple conversations and talk to the fleeing natives. So, conversation starts, and I end up talking to them about the Book of Mormon. One native, Mike Mountainhorse, chimes in how his friend talked with him about the book, and about a scripture in Malachi. After a bit of struggling, I come to find that he was talking about Moroni. So, he said he was interested and took a Book of Mormon and said he wanted to read and pray about it. We set up an appointment for Friday at eight, and gave him a Book of Mormon.
So Friday comes and we show up to his house, only to find that there is no Mike Mountainhorse. Bummer.
Your probably wondering why I'm telling you this. So, Saturday Elder Pauli and I are on splits at the time walking Main Street. Well, guess who we find? Mike Mountainhorse! He apologizes for missing the appointment, and then we talk about the Book of Mormon. He said that he tried it out. He tells me that he prayed before he read the scriptures and asked God to give him a sign that he can know that they are true. Then he said he read Moroni 10:3-5. He says he got goosebumps as he did, and felt really good inside. He then told me that he knew that the Book of Mormon was true. It was amazing. I asked if he wanted to pursue this more, and he said yes. We talked about the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. And then I invited him to be baptized, and he said yes. It was amazing. He said that his family wants to do this. He said he talked to his wife, and that she wasn't too interested. Then he said that he read her the verses from Moroni, and she felt great about them and changed her mind. He invited us to come back and teach them.
The Lord can work miracles! Act on your faith in Jesus Christ and miracles will come. God loves all His children and wants them to know that. He wants all of them to come back and live with Him again. My invitation to everyone is to do exactly what Mike Mountainhorse did, and that is to read and pray. Put it to the test! As you do, no matter how many times you've done it before, God will answer you. You can feel the truthfulness of the message we have for everyone today.
The Gospel has been restored.

Elder Call
Dear Mom,
Sounds like the family is doing well and having some crazy adventures! And no worries about me being tanner than you, because I still have to survive another winter here which means little sunlight. I'm sure my white skin will blind all of you when I get home. But I'm glad that you enjoyed the pictures and video! And happy to hear about Megan taking off on her mission! She'll be a good missionary, and have lots of fun. She's going to the Vancouver mission, right? Anywho, this week has been good! Let me answer some questions...
How many wards did you visit yesterday?
We actually only had time to visit two wards yesterday. Our wards are pretty spread out. We went to a missionary farewell, so that was neat!
Favorite sister missionary in your zone and why?
Probably Sister O'Dell. She is pretty quiet and doesn't complain. And that is nice to have in a sister missionary, let me tell ya!
Favorite dessert you've had on your mission?
Probably apple cobbler!
Best teaching moment this week?

Best learning moment of the week?
That God answers prayers. I found that He answers in a lot of different ways, and not always with words. He works a lot with our Spirit, communicating with it through feelings. So that was neat.
If you were home and could teach any lesson to us for Family Night, what would you teach us?
I would probably teach something simple. Probably a basic from one of the missionary lessons. I think I would teach about the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and focus on Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, and praying to know of the truth.
Any specific prayers you are in need of? Or even general prayers?
Hm... I think just praying for our investigators, and that we'll be able to have success in Walk and Talk August! Our Zone is doing incredibly. We have a Zone Conference this week as well, so that should get them fired up even more! We'll be going through an Endowment session with two other zones. I'm pretty excited! So if you could pray for the Zone, and that we'll have a good Temple trip I think that would be nice. It will happen on Thursday, so we are excited!
I am glad that I was able to spend time with you, even if it was shopping. Thanks for taking time for me. I'm positive I wouldn't have been as prepared for my mission, spiritually, financially, physically, mentally, you name it, if I didn't have you. Thanks for all you've done for me! And all that you continue to do for me! I love you! You are in my prayers. God loves you. Christ is our Savior. They won't leave us to take this on alone. They are always sending us help to lift us up and help us along our way. They truly love us! Thanks for being an example to me and for helping me to find that love in my life. I love you!
Love,
Elder Call
