ZL in Cardston, Canada with Elder Downing (from American Fork)
Email from Tuesday Sept 23, 2014
Dear World,
I'm 20. Officially not a teenager. I'm not sure what to do with myself.
But, Canada is still great, even through my now 20 year old eyes!
This week was great. We went out to Lavern quite a bit this week. We were out stopping by a few people, and felt we should go stop by Rodney. Well, he wasn't home when we stopped by, but we ran into Rodney's sister Doreen, and her son Jagger. Doreen invited us in, and told us about how her brother had just died. She was so distraught by all of it. It was obviously a pretty traumatic experience. She cried as she told the story of his death and how she felt alone and hopeless. It was neat to be in a position to help her. We bore testimony to her of Jesus Christ and the Plan of Salvation. We told her that she could find strength and hope in the scriptures, and she committed to read from the Book of Mormon.
As we walked out of that home we mentioned to each other how great it was to know that we were in the right spot at the right time. Because of the Spirit we were led to someone who needed our help.
Heavenly Father will place people in our paths for us to help if we trust in Him and follow the Spirit! You'll feel the exact same way that Elder Downing and I felt as we left Doreen and Jagger's home. So, go and find someone to help this week! And let me know how it goes. (If you read this you are now under legal obligation to do it) :)
God's plan is a plan of happiness!
Love,
Elder Call
{and my letter from him!}
Hey mom! Thanks for the birthday wishes. It was a sweet day! I loved what you said about the cactus. As I was reading this morning I pondered over Laman and Lemuel, and how they went to get the plates, they travelled through the wilderness, they provided food for their family, the helped build the ship, the crossed the ocean, and they got to the promised land. I was thinking about how obedient they were. I compared them with Nephi. He did all those things, but at the same time he got so much more out of it. Faith building experiences, miracles, happiness. I think it came because he did it out of love for the Lord and he did it the Lord's way with a good attitude. He didn't sit on the cactus if you know what I'm saying! So thanks for those thoughts, it confirmed what I learned this morning.
Did you get our bday envelope/package? It may have looked a little small, but it was FILLED with love!! Not sure if had a chance to pop that sd card into your camera, but make sure you watch the ones that are video. Ha! We had a lot of fun making that for you!!!

One time I was talking with Elder Gordon and he did something great and I said, "You are the best, and by the best I mean almost the best, because my mom is the best." I love you mom!
