Companion: Elder Downing
This letter came in a series of five emails, each with a photo. Loved it!
This is my companion Elder Downing. I figured you ought to know what he looks like. Haha!
My truck got tagged with window markers by some YSA kids on my birthday.
Hence, I got a lot of honks that day!! Haha!
So, we were on the reserve trying to find a less active family. We didn't find them, but we did find a ton of dogs as we drove away. They all chased our car and ran in front of it too, so I was driving like 5 kilometers an hour for like 5 minutes trying not to run these dogs over. So, finally I just get impatient and floor it... and... haha, no worries I didn't hit any. They were all off to the sides and we got away! Haha! So dog story number two. I'm on exchanges with Elder Wiser and we are in Standoff. We walk up to this house when this pit bull wakes up and charges at us barking its head off!! So nuts!! Luckily enough for us, we got far enough back that the chain he was attached to stopped him. Phew!! So, we then snuck around him and knocked on the door! But no one was home. So we got away from the dog again and kept walking, when we get to the other side and realize we were knocking on the back door, haha, and that whole situation could have been avoided. Woops!! Haha :)
So, this is the reserve. Lavern to be specific. But while we are talking about the reserve I'll tell ya about Mike. So, Elder Wiser and I went to see Mike. We showed up a little before he got there, which was sweet. So we were able to talk with him. He was super depressed. He was having a super rough time with family, and was teary eyed the whole time. So we were able to talk with him a bit and try to help him out. We bore testimony of God's love for him and that he could make it through this. It was neat. So, we left after that, both of us still pretty sad from his situation. We said a prayer and then drove away, when I got the feeling that we should go back. My thoughts were, "no, he said he was going to his uncle's house," and, "no, that would be weird going back!!" Anywho, I sat at the yield sign a bit, and then told Elder Wiser I felt we should go back, flipped an U-turn, and went back. We knocked on his door and I told him I felt like we should come back, and we ended up saying a prayer with him on his front porch. After the prayer he said he felt so much better and he even smiled. It was amazing. The Spirit always leads us to do good no matter how random, weird, or spontaneous the prompting!
So, the church is true. God knows you and loves you, and he even wants you to have a good laugh every now and then! And that's why he gives you missed calls from the 1900's. Haha!
I love you!
Love,
Elder Call
