Fish Creek Ward, Calgary Canada
November 17, 2014
I had a pretty cool experience this week. We were at dinner this week with a family and they were talking about a relative of theirs who is serving hear in this mission. They started talking about an experience he had with a man that he baptized. He was over here visiting his daughter for awhile from over in the Middle East. His daughter was a recent convert and brought him to church so he could watch her little boy. This way she could pay more attention while he babysat. They went on to say that even though at first he didn't understand English very well, he felt very good at church. He started to be taught the discussions, and was baptized soon after that. Sweet story, huh!
So, these people sounded really, really familiar. I asked if he was in the Panorama Ward in northern Calgary when this all happened. And they said it was! Fara, the daughter of this man who was baptized, was less-active in the ward when I came. I remember when her parents came to Canada, and then came to our ESL class. We got to teach them English! The mom went back home, but the dad stayed. We continued to teach him English. We also visited with Fara and challenged her to go to the Temple, and she got a recommend while I was there! She started coming back to church, and I remember that she brought her dad and kid along with her. I was soon transferred afterwards, so I hadn't heard anything about them until now! And he got baptized! It was so neat to be able to hear about that.
So that was amazing. The Church is true! God loves all His children and He needs you where you are! The Gospel is so sweet!

Hey Mom! Happy to hear that the family is happy! That is awesome! Everyone seems really busy! Crazy! They are almost halfway done with the school year! Whaaaat? I emailed Zac today and just about asked if he was excited to skype in 2 months... then I realized that it was November 17! Weird. Anywho, everyone seems really happy and busy so I hope it stays that way! Oh, and tell Grace Congratulations!! Oh and can you send me Grandma address as well as Hunter McArthurs? Thanks!
Happy to hear that your talk went well. That is awesome! Way to follow the Spirit mom! Can't wait for that letter! I got one of your letters this week and I loved it. Thanks for all of your encouragement mom!
So, question time...
How is Josh doing? Did he and his girlfriend come to church this week? Have you been able to teach him or meet with him this week?
He missed church because he was out of town this week, but we are meeting with him this week and he already said he would be at church this next Sunday!
Do you have other less actives or investigators that you are working with?
Yes! Zachary, a less active, who we just started teaching, and went to his family ward this week! We are trying to get him out to YSA. Richard Visser, an investigator, who is still at the stage of believing in a higher power, but doesn't know if it is God yet. And a few others we are starting to work with.
Did you get your Christmas box?? Are your morning studies all "lit up" and bright now?? (with your new light!?) PS AFTER transfers the first week of December, you can open the box and get out the gifts to put under your tree. Or on your desk or wherever!
Oh, about that! The office won't let us take Christmas packages without your consent so if you could please call and tell them that I need the package that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Mom!
Best part of your week?
I'll tell you in the Big Kahuna :)
Best meal of the week?
One meal we had eggs with ham and peppers and then pancakes with ice cream! It wasn't overbearing and it was delicious so that was great!
Is your good jacket keeping you warm?
Sure is! I love that jacket!
What other winter gear do you have? boots, gloves, scarf??
I have good socks, gloves, and pretty much everything I need :)
What winter gear do you need to survive the next few months?? Who am I kidding, I mean the next six months?!!
Haha! I might get better socks. I'll check a few stores. Thanks mom!
Does your car even start when it is so cold out??
Haha yes! Some people plug in their cars so it keeps it warm. Its a Canadian thing.
How are YOU doing?? Spiritually? Emotionally? Physically? Come on, no holding back!!! I'm your mom!!
I'm doing well! I've appreciated your advice on adjusting to the weather. The Vitamin D helps and I'm sure the light will too! Thanks mom!
Are you using more of the money you get each month because you need to buy more food since you don't get fed as much? just curious!! :)
Haha yup! But there is this lady in our apartment complex that gives the sisters in our complex food every week and they give some to us as well! So that is nice!
Hey, I made another connection!! I finally figured out who Elder Jacobs family came to visit in Tammy Trumans ward!!! Elder Jacobs cousin, Sena (who is 5 yrs old now) went to our preschool the past two years!! Small world, huh?? I taught and love Elder Jacobs little sweet cousin!! :) (Sena's dad and Elder Jacobs mom are siblings) Awesome, huh??!!
Haha, that is so funny! What a small world! That is crazy!!
Thanks for all your advice and love! I am very grateful for it! I love you so much and hope that you have a great week! Thanks for everything you've done to get me out here and to keep me going strong! Thanks for the sacrifices that you have made for me. I love you mom!
Love,
Elder Call
